The Health Ministry has reported 2,188 new COVID-19 cases, marking a record high for the second consecutive day.

The previous record was yesterday's 1,884 new cases.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 1,623 latest cases in Selangor, 1,511 came from the Teratai cluster, which is linked to Top Glove's factories in Klang, Selangor.

Tiong, who is the PDP president, had on Wednesday accused Noor Hisham of being "afraid to die" for not visiting Sabah at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

However, Tiong maintained that his criticism is justified. He gave the example of instances where medical workers in Sarawak had to improvise due to a lack of personal protective equipment.

#KiniNews: Health DG urges M'sians to stay home as 260 cases recorded

Malaysia reported 260 new cases of Covid-19 today of which only one is imported while the remaining 259 were locally acquired infections.

The number includes four new clusters in Selangor, Sabah, Putrajaya, and Kedah.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah noted that this is the second-highest increase in the number of cases in a single day, after the 277 cases recorded on June 4 amid the outbreak at the Bukit Jalil immigration detention depot at the time.

Noor Hisham added that the country recorded no new Covid-19 cases from local transmission today.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today debunked a viral message of an alleged scam in which individuals purporting to be Health Ministry officers arrived at a person's home in a ministry van on the pretext of conducting door-to-door tests.

Taking to Facebook today, the Health Ministry clarified the purported scam.

"The accusation where the ministry's van was used in a scam was fake. The van belongs to the ministry, and the staff were the members of the ministry," said the ministry.

The ministry pointed out the district health office would contact members of the public before going to their houses in future.

Malaysia recorded 38 new Covid-19 cases, the majority of which are Malaysians returning from abroad.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 26 of the cases were imported while 12 were local transmissions.

From the imported cases, 20 were Malaysians returning from Egypt, four from Indonesia and two from the United Kingdom.

Malaysia has recorded a spike of 172 new COVID-19 cases today, most of which are detected at three immigration detention facilities in the country.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 172 cases, five were imported, while 159 cases involved non-citizens. Of the non-citizens, 112 cases were detected at the immigration depots.

Malaysia had recorded a double-digit number of daily new cases for the past 21 days.

A new cluster of positive Covid-19 cases has been detected at the Bukit Jalil immigration depot in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia continues to see more recoveries than new COVID-19 infections.

During the daily press conference on Tuesday, Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 202 recoveries in the past 24-hours, while 170 new cases were reported.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob revealed today that over 9,000 people have been caught for violating the MCO since it began.
